Welcome to the Drama Department! At HCCS we have a thriving department with opportunity for students to develop their performance and communication, skills whilst enhancing transferable life skills such as leadership and public speaking, all within our fantastic theatre spaces. We offer a variety of extra curricular opportunities where students are invited to further enhance their skills and experiences, collaborating with other HCCS students in our highly equipped performance spaces.
Studying Drama at HCCS:
Year 7: Cultural Theatre, Greek Theatre, Darkwood Manor, Refugees, Scripted Performance - 'The Last Resort'
Year 8: Non-verbal Communication, Physical Theatre, Scripted Performance - 'Our Day Out', Commedia Dell’arte, Improvisation and Devising Drama
Year 9: 'Let him have it', The London Riots, Hillsborough, Scripted Performance - ' Stags and Hens', Improvisation and Devising Drama
GCSE Drama: Component One - ‘Blood Brothers’ and Live Theatre, Component Two - Devising Drama, Component Three - Text in Practice
A Level Drama and Theatre Studies: Devising Drama - performance of a devised piece in a theatrical style. Textual Performance - the performance / technical support of an extract from a play to illustrate understanding of another influential practitioner. Live Theatre exploration and text exploration form the written paper of the course.
Extra Curricular Drama:
September - December: A popular whole school production takes place every other year and students from Year 7 - 13 are welcome to audition for performance roles or become involved with technical and backstage support. Rehearsals run from September to December and the production takes place mid December. Always a crowd pleaser!
January - July: KS3 Drama Club every Wednesday lunch in TH1.
Every year we run a trip to London in Alternative Learning Week whereby students from Year 9-Year 13 have the opportunity to participate in professional actor's workshops in renowned venues such as Pineapple Studios. We also undertake backstage tours of iconic theatre venues such as The Globe Theatre and The National Theatre. Students also have the chance to watch two West End productions. A wonderful and memorable experience that students cherish.
