Edexcel GCSE Physical Education


What do I need to know, or be able to do, before taking this course?


The course builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills established in Key Stage 3 Physical Education.


70% of the course is Theory based (60% exam and 10% coursework). The two main topic headings are 'Fitness and Body Systems' and 'Health and Performance'. 30% of the course is practically assessed. Students will need to choose 3 activities from a set list which must include a team and an individual activity.


You should have an active interest in physical education and sport participating in competitive sport both for school and in community clubs. A genuine interest in the holistic nature of Physical Education is required. Wider reading and a healthy appetite to develop your own understanding is essential to succeeded in this course.

If you are committed, reflective and prepared to go the extra mile in developing your own performance, speak with your PE teacher regarding undertaking this course.

Edexcel A level physical Education


You must be playing competitive sport outside of school. Have an interest in the multi-disciplinary nature of Physical education & Sport. You need to consistently demonstrate a passion and enthusiasm for the subject through wider reading, watching sport and recognising the importance of data in refining performance.
