We are receiving lots of questions from students and parents regarding the process that will be used to calculate individual results now that the normal summer examinations will not go ahead. We understand how unsettling this is for everyone. In the background, our staff have been working hard to gather a whole range of data that we think may be used as evidence to support whatever grades are awarded on each subject and for each student.
We are, however, carrying out this work using our best guess rather than having any definitive guidance to work to. We expect further guidance to be issued in the near future, some time before the Easter break. When this guidance is published, we will have a clear view of the work we need to do in order to provide Ofqual with the most secure and objective assessment information, as possible for each of our students. It must be emphasised that we will not be in a position to share any of the information with students or parents. The system of awarding grades will be subject to considerable external moderation and verification, just as we would expect in a normal examination cycle. The results when published will have the exact same value as in any other year.
No work currently being carried out by students will be able to be submitted as part of the overall process used to calculate final grades so there is nothing that students can do now to influence these. Teachers will continue to set work for students with the aim of bridging the gap between where they are now and where they will need to be in September when they embark on the next stage of their learning journey. In the time leading up to school restarting we will be working to ensure that all year groups are in the best possible position to resume their learning back in the classroom.
Later this week we will issue further information about the grading system in the form of frequently asked questions and answers. This will be available via the school website. In the meantime, we would ask that ALL questions and comments, relating to the summer results, are sent to email@example.com Individual subject teachers will not be in a position to respond to questions about results or the submission of evidence.
This inbox will be monitored by senior staff who are best placed to get you the most up to date answers to the issues that are causing concern. We understand how concerned students, parents and staff are about the impact on the summer results caused by the nation’s response to the Coronavirus pandemic. However, we would also like to assure you that we will continue to do everything we can to help and support our students.
