What is Safeguarding?

​

Safeguarding is the action that is taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined for the purposes: -

 

  • protecting children from maltreatment;

  • preventing impairment of children's health or development;

  • ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and

  • taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

The welfare of the child is paramount

​

  • To protect children from maltreatment

  • To prevent impairment of children’s health and development

  • To ensure that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
